Compare
Wix versus Webflow
Wix optimises for someone building it themselves. Webflow optimises for a designer building it for you. The comparison depends on which one you are.
In short. Wix is built to be used by the business owner directly. Webflow is built to be used by a designer on the business owner's behalf. Neither is the wrong choice — they answer a different question about who does the work.
Wix is built so a business owner with no design or code background can build and maintain a competent site themselves. Webflow is built so a designer can produce precise, custom visual design without writing code, then hand the finished site to a client to maintain through a simpler content editor. The comparison genuinely turns on who is going to build and later update the site, more than on which platform is “better.”
Disclosure, before the opinions start
This site carries no affiliate links, no sponsored placements and no referral arrangement with either platform named on this page — the full position is at commercial relationships. Nobody bought a position in this comparison, which is a stronger position than most agency-published content on this pairing, since an agency frequently builds exclusively on one of the two (or a third builder, such as Squarespace) and has a direct commercial reason to steer you there. There is no neutral scoring process behind this page, and what follows is one practitioner’s opinion, exposed so you can reject it.
No measurable Google search volume was recorded for this pairing in the 3 August 2026 pull behind research/comparison-candidates.json. That absence does not mean the question is unasked — it means fewer people frame it as a direct head-to-head search than frame the individual platforms against WordPress instead.
What the actual difference between Wix and Webflow is
Wix is a fully hosted, all-in-one website builder that starts from a template you customise, with a drag-and-drop editor designed for a non-technical owner to use directly, plus an app market covering most common small-business needs — bookings, a shop, forms, membership areas. Webflow is also fully hosted, but its editor starts from a blank canvas: Webflow gives a designer granular control over layout, spacing and interaction at a level of precision Wix’s simpler, template-first editor does not attempt to match. That precision is Webflow’s whole reason for existing, and it is also why Webflow has a steeper learning curve for someone without design training. Wix’s newer Wix Studio tier is aimed squarely at agencies and designers, narrowing part of this gap for a business willing to pay for the higher-end product — worth checking directly if the standard Wix editor feels too constrained but a full move to Webflow feels like overkill.
Who Wix is for, and who Webflow is for
Wix suits a business owner who wants to build and maintain the site personally, without hiring a designer for every future change, and whose needs are well served by the app market’s existing solutions rather than a fully custom design.
Webflow suits a business commissioning a designer for a distinctive, precisely art-directed site, where the visual design is doing real commercial work — a portfolio, an agency’s own site, a product with a strong brand identity — and where ongoing content updates after launch can be handled through Webflow’s simpler CMS-editing view without needing the designer’s involvement for every change.
Wix and Webflow cost shape, per month
Both charge a recurring monthly subscription, and both add ecommerce functionality at a higher tier if you need it. Both also integrate with Zapier for connecting forms or bookings to other business systems, though native integrations vary between the two. Check current pricing directly on each platform’s own site, since it changes.
Wix’s cost beyond the subscription mostly arrives through its app market — individual apps for reviews, advanced forms, bookings and similar, each usually its own monthly fee, accumulating gradually and rarely audited as a whole.
Webflow’s cost beyond the subscription is more concentrated in the initial design and build, because achieving Webflow’s visual precision is design labour, and that labour is commonly a larger upfront cost than a comparable Wix build, in exchange for a result the platform’s own editor could not easily produce for a non-designer working alone. Ongoing costs after that are usually lower than Wix’s accumulating app fees, because Webflow’s approach favours building capability directly into the design rather than adding a subscription app for each feature.
Wix and Webflow: ownership and exit
This is the section nobody else writes.
Wix does not offer an export that rebuilds your site elsewhere. Content and some structured data can be extracted, but the design, layout and anything running through an installed app largely cannot be recreated on another platform without a rebuild. Leaving Wix means starting again, funded by you, from your own copy of the content.
Webflow exports the actual HTML and CSS of the built site, which is a genuinely more portable format than Wix’s, though the resulting code is generated by Webflow’s own system and is not always as clean to hand to a different developer as code written from scratch. CMS content (blog posts, dynamic collections) exports separately. This is meaningfully better than Wix’s position, without being a complete guarantee of a painless move.
Both platforms require a fresh password-reset event for any customer accounts if you migrate away, since neither exports stored passwords — plan the communication around that if either platform is holding customer logins.
Register your own .com.au domain through an auDA-accredited Australian registrar in your own account regardless of which platform you choose, under the eligibility rules on Australian domain eligibility, so a platform change is a DNS update rather than a negotiation with whoever currently controls the name.
Australian specifics
Both handle GST-inclusive pricing once configured correctly, and neither lets you choose a hosting country, so customer data sits offshore on either platform — name that in your privacy policy regardless of which you pick. Neither platform is materially better suited to Australian payment methods than the other at a basic level; check current local payment method support directly with each before assuming either covers what your customers expect.
Who should choose Wix, and who should choose Webflow
Choose Wix if you want to build and maintain the site yourself without ongoing designer involvement, and your needs fit comfortably within its app market.
Choose Webflow if the visual design is doing real commercial work for your business, you are commissioning a designer to build it, and you want a simpler editing experience for content updates after launch without needing the designer for every change.
What either path costs as a commissioned purchase, rather than a DIY build, is set out on website design services as a purchase.
What would change this answer
A strong DIY preference, with genuinely modest design ambitions, pulls toward Wix regardless of anything else. A brand where distinctive, precise design is part of the commercial proposition pulls toward Webflow, provided the higher upfront design cost is budgeted for honestly rather than discovered partway through a quote.
